Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy
Mission:
To lead the business community in raising the level and quality of corporate philanthropy.
About the Organization:
The Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) is an international forum of business leaders pursuing a mission exclusively focused on corporate philanthropy. Membership is by invitation only and includes more than 125 CEOs and chairpersons representing companies that account for more than 50 percent of reported corporate giving in the United States.
Current Programs:
CECP's signature program is its corporate-giving measurement initiative, the Corporate Giving Standard (CGS), a comprehensive online measuring, reporting, and benchmarking tool for managers of large corporate giving programs. Using data collected through CGS, the committee publishes an annual survey of corporate giving each July. Its disaster relief program enables members who assist with relief and recovery efforts to share information with one another via the CECP Web site. On National Corporate Philanthropy Day in February, the organization presents its annual Excellence Awards to companies demonstrating outstanding CEO leadership, dedication to corporate giving measurement, and innovation in corporate philanthropy; and through its Directors Award, it recognizes a nonprofit that has built an effective partnership with a company in its community. The organization also sponsors the John C. Whitehead Business Education Leadership Program, in which an MBA student works as a summer intern with CECP and its partners.
Web Site:
The CECP Web site features an overview of the organization; research reports; annual reports; a membership listing; showcased member initiatives; and collaborative partners; as well as current and back issues of the New Century Philanthropy online newsletter, which is posted to more than thirteen hundred CEOs.
Funding:
For more than four years, CECP was supported by individuals and foundations, but in 2004, the organization converted to an annual membership fee, which is currently $10,000.
