9/11 National Day of Service Initiative

9/11 National Day of Service Initiative

Mission:
To help people who want to volunteer on September 11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, find charitable organizations that need their help.

Background:
The 9/11 National Day of Service initiative is organized annually by MyGoodDeed in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, the HandsOn Network, and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum to encourage Americans to volunteer. The day of service was officially established by President Obama on September 10, 2009.

Outstanding Web Features:
The initiative's Web site lets visitors browse a list of nonprofits in need of support by name, location, and area of interest. Visitors can also donate to, share information about, or sign up to volunteer for any of the organizations; download 9/11-related lesson plans; and post good deeds carried out September 11 (requires registration).
