American Bar Association/Public Education

American Bar Association/Public Education

Mission:
To promote public understanding of the law and its role in society.

Background:
The Division on Public Education on the ABA Web site contains information for consumers, students, and educators on topics that include how courts work, recent cases argued before the Supreme Court, practical law affecting everyday situations, the National Online Youth Summit, a list of ABA awards and contests that recognize outstanding efforts to foster public understanding of law by individuals and institutions in education, law, media, and the arts; and programs featuring pioneers in the legal profession for Black History Month (February), Asian-Pacific-American Heritage Month (May), and National Hispanic Heritage Month (mid-September to mid-October).

Outstanding Feature:
LawInfo.org contains legal information affecting consumers in seven areas: family, home, job, finances, buying and selling, the courts, and criminal justice. Each area provides ABA publications, factsheets, and other items. For instance, the family section includes information about family law, united family courts, estate planning, divorce, domestic violence, and the rights of older Americans. A final section describes how to find a lawyer.
