American Women Veterans Foundation

Mission:
To empower women from all branches of service with a continued sense of pride and service that enables them to reach their full potential and to contribute as they always have in making America stronger.

Background:
Established in 2010, the American Women Veterans Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of U.S. servicewomen, veterans, and their families. The organization advocates for new or improved policies that improve the lives of women veterans and their families; sponsors retreats, conferences, and symposia; conducts outreach campaigns to raise awareness among servicewomen and veterans of benefits, entitlements, and services; promotes public awareness of women's contributions from all branches and eras of service; provides continued service through philanthropic projects; and cultivates leadership and professionalism in both the military and local communities.

Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the site can read firsthand accounts of the experiences of women veterans on the "Bras & Boots" blog, share their own stories, browse the photo gallery, sign up to volunteer, or make a donation. Veterans also can learn more about educational, employment, and business resources; child care and housing options; and/or link to the Veterans Crisis Line if they need help. The site also maintains a list of servicewomen killed in action since July 2010.
