California Watch

California Watch

Mission:
To produce solution-oriented reporting that will positively impact the quality of life in California communities.

Background:
California Watch is a project of the Center for Investigative Reporting launched last summer to pursue in-depth, high-impact reporting on issues of importance to Californians. Funded primarily by the Irvine, Hewlett, and Knight foundations, the project distributes its stories through social media, the California Watch Web site, and local and regional news organizations, including newspapers, online publications, television, radio, ethnic media, and new forms of media.

Outstanding Web Features:
The California Watch Web site makes available investigative reports, blog posts, and multimedia tools related to health and welfare, K-12 and higher education, money and politics, the environment, and public safety. The site also offers resources on each topic, including recommended sites and databases, story ideas, and reporting tips, as well as a section containing data sets on a wide range of topics.
