Catapult

Mission:
To connect donors to organizations around the world working for women and girls and to bring an end to gender inequality.

Background:
Launched in 2012 by global advocacy organization Women Deliver, Catapultis the first crowdfunding site dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women. Designed to harness the power of social networks in support of chronically underfunded girls' and women's organizations, the site provides a no-fee platform to which organizations in more than thirty countries upload project proposals following a due-diligence process. Donors can then follow the progress of the projects they have chosen to support. Funded in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Catapult's partner organizations include the Global Fund for Women, the United Nations Population Fund, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Akilah Institute for Women, and One Heart World-Wide.

Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the site can browse projectsby category including economic security, human trafficking, maternal health, and reproductive rights or geographical region. Donors also can create teamsto raise funds as a group or join an existing one, including teams created by "curators" celebrities or nonprofit leaders who support Catapult's work by bringing attention to an issue they care about. And in addition to donating to specific projects, visitors to the site can purchase gift cardsthat can be used by others to fund a project or projects of their choice.
