Climate Action Navigator

Climate Action Navigator

Mission:  The Climate Action Navigator helps public- and private-sector global leaders use climate science assess what they need to do to close the gap between where emissions are currently trending and where they need to be by 2030.

Background: Global greenhouse gas emissions are set to increase by 16 percent by 2030, depleting the ozone layer and putting the planet at risk of devastating effects of climate change. To prevent the worst-case scenario, global temperature rises must be kept under 1.5 degrees Celsius in accordance with the United Nations' Paris Agreement goals, which would require cutting global greenhouse gas emissions by 56 percent by the close of the decade. To help close the gap between where emissions are currently trending and where they need to be, the Oliver Wyman Forum brings together business, public policy, and social enterprise leaders to create innovative solutions by reframing industry, business in society, and global economic and political change. The Climate Action Navigator tool is designed to assist global leaders in exploring actions needed to halve emissions by 2030 — by identifying emissions levels for twenty-two industry sectors in twelve global regions and quantifying the effects of various carbon-reduction strategies.

Outstanding Web Features: The Climate Action Library assesses the impact of seventeen mitigation actions, including changes in energy and fuel usage, building construction and heating, industrial processes and transportation, land use and food efficiency, and negative emission technologies. These actions are housed within six distinct themes, like energy and fuels or transportation across twenty-three industries. Each has a role to play in reducing today's emissions to 2030 targets. Using the Climate Action Navigator, visitors can explore climate actions by region, sector, or industry through a snapshot view of the emissions targets and gaps. Visitors can then select a particular climate action to learn more. For more information, articles about climate change and its mitigation needs are available for review.
