Equal Footing

Equal Footing

Mission: To provide data about philanthropic funding and highlight approaches focused on economic development (with a focus on women) in Burundi, the Democractic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda.

Background: A joint initiative of Bloomberg Philanthropies, the King Baudouin Foundation, and Foundation Center, the Equal Footing Web portal is designed to provide funders, NGOs, donor governments, and others with data and information about philanthropic funding in the Central African countries of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda. Initiated in response to a range of challenges experienced by funders working in the region, including a lack of information on funding, underutilized research on what works (and doesn't), and missed opportunities for collaboration, the site explores half a dozen funding strategies focused on economic development and, through case studies and infographics, highlights how funders with an interest in the region are supporting women's economic development.

Outstanding Web Features: A comprehensive philanthropic database enables visitors to learn more about development projects in the region that have been funded, which solutions have had a measurable impact, and what needs are currently underserved. Resources include a robust mapping application that allows visitors to access details about funders, recipients, and specific grants; more than a thousand profiles of foundations and NGOs working in the region; content on a range of topics, including effective approaches to funding in conflict and post-conflict societies; reports and case studies; how-to materials and key statistics; and links to related organizations.
