Mission: To promote understanding, education, enlightenment, appreciation, and enrichment through the identification, gathering, preservation, and dissemination of the history and culture of Filipino Americans in the United States.

Background: Founded by Filipino-American activists Fred and Dorothy Cordova and based in Seattle, the national office and archives operate year-round to lend expertise and support to thirty-eight chapters across the United States and serve as the primary informational resource on Filipino Americans for community organizations, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, local and national museums and historical associations, authors, playwrights, filmmakers, teachers, students, and scholars. The society also sponsors national conferences where Filipino Americans can network and present research. The organization's initiatives include documentation of the Filipino presence in North America as early as 1587; public programming including photo exhibits, oral history, lectures, symposiums, forums, journal writing, and university/college credit courses; preservation of archival collections; identification of historical sites; provision of public service to the Filipino-American community; documentary films; and the annual nationwide observance of Filipino American History Month in October. The month was established to commemorate the first documented landing of Filipinos in the United States more than 425 years ago.
