GenerationOn

Mission:
To enable young people to develop into healthy, empowered, creative problem-solvers and global leaders by helping them discover their power and potential through service, service learning, and giving back.

Background:
Sponsored by the Hasbro Children's Fund, GenerationOn is a youth-focused project of the Points of Light Institute, a national nonprofit that works to inspire, equip, and mobilize people to take action that changes the world. GenerationOn provides volunteer opportunities and resources for children, families, educators, and nonprofits by bringing three youth service organizations — Children for Children, the League, and Learning to Give — together.

Outstanding Web Features:
The GenerationOn Web site features resources that empower students of all ages, including a make your mark map where teens can share what they are doing to help their community; ideas for giving back; quizzes for kids and teens; resources and project ideas for parents; and the Ignite Guide for Teens, a step-by-step manual that teaches students how to begin a service learning project. Through the Learning to Give portal, educators can browse more than fourteen hundred lesson plans and resources that teach giving and volunteerism, civic engagement, and character development through service learning, including a searchable collection of twelve hundred quotations. In addition, teenagers visiting the portal can engage in online activities and learn about philanthropy, while faith groups can access parochial lesson plans or browse activities for youth with a religious orientation.
