Global Oneness Project
Mission: To "bring the world to your classroom" via films, photo essays, and articles that explore cultural, social, and environmental issues through a humanistic lens.
Background: Founded by filmmaker and composer Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee and owned by the Kalliopeia Foundation, the Global Oneness Project has been sharing stories that chronicle the lives of people working to bring about social and environmental change since 2006. Originally conceived as a free "living" film library, the platform evolved into a multimedia educational initiative that provides access to lesson plans designed to engage high school and college students in a variety of cultures and issues. The lesson plans, which include short documentary films, photo essays, and articles, are aligned with national and Common Core standards and are designed to support and facilitate critical thinking, reflective writing, and in-class activities.
Outstanding Web Features: The Global Oneness Project's multicultural educational platform invites teachers to browse dozens of stories by content type (e.g., formal lesson plans, articles, films, interviews, photo essays, reports from the field) or specific academic subject. Every month, the project releases a new story with an accompanying sixty-minute lesson plan. Teachers who sign up for the organization's e-newsletter service receive notification as soon as a new story is posted, along with a free lesson plan. The site also offers companion study guides and conversation cards and an Educational Film Toolkit. In addition, through the Go Project Films portal — the organization's film production arm — visitors to the site can browse the organization’s award-winning film collection, which has been featured on PBS and in National Geographic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and TED. Global Oneness Project educational materials also are being used in a variety of classroom settings. All donations to the project are tax-deductible and contribute to the production and free distribution of stories and educational materials.
