IBRinfo
Mission:
To instruct student loan borrowers about the Income-Based Repayment (IBR) and Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs.
Background:
Created by the Project on Student Debt, which works to increase public understanding of student debt, IBRinfo is a Web-based resource for information on two new federal loan programs — Income-Based Repayment (IBR) and Public Service Loan Forgiveness — that will go into effect on July 1, 2009. Funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, IBRinfo works with partner organizations, including the American Federation of Teachers and the National Consumer Law Center, to spread the word about the programs and the benefits they carry for borrowers.
Outstanding Web Features:
IBRinfo provides eligibility and background information on the IBR and Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs as well as information on how to apply for the loans. The site also offers an IBR calculator to help potential borrowers determine if they qualify for the program. Visitors to the site can register for email updates on the latest IBR and Public Service Loan Forgiveness news.
