Nature Conservancy

Mission:
To protect ecologically important lands and waters for the benefit of nature and the world's people.

Background:
Founded in 1951, the Nature Conservancy addresses conservation challenges involving climate change, fire, fresh water, forests, invasive species, and marine ecosystems. Working in all fifty states and more than thirty countries, TNC pursues its pragmatic, science-based approach to protecting habitats in partnership with more than a million members, indigenous communities, businesses, governments, and other nonprofits.

Outstanding Web Features:
The Nature Conservancy Web site offers a customizable nature portal, a freshwater conservation tool, an interactive Google map of the world's nature preserves, a carbon footprint calculator, a podcast series, and photos, video, and audio of conservation success stories. Visitors to the site also can read the TNC blog, send nature-related e-cards, download desktop wallpapers, and contribute to the Nature Conservancy Flickr pool.
