Newseum

Newseum

Mission:
To provide a forum in which the media and public can gain a better understanding of each other.

Background:
Originally located in Arlington, Virginia, the Newseum opened a new 250,000-square-foot facility in Washington, D.C., last week. Featuring seven levels of galleries, theaters, and retail space, as well as a 74-foot-high marble engraving of the First Amendment, the new building houses exhibitions that explore news history, electronic and world news, photo journalism, and how the media have covered major historical events.

Outstanding Web Features:
The Newseum Web site offers information on each of its fourteen main exhibit spaces, including the New York Times-Ochs-Sulzberger Family Great Hall of News, the NBC News Interactive Newsroom, and the 9/11, Berlin Wall, and Pulitzer Prize Photographs galleries. The site also features images and analysis of more than five hundred newspapers' daily front pages, an interactive journalists memorial, a trivia game, a virtual tour of the museum, and information on upcoming events. Past visitors to the museum can also view and download videos of themselves from the "Be a TV Reporter" exhibit.
