Seattle Foundation

Seattle Foundation

Mission:
To create a healthy community through engaged philanthropy, community knowledge, and leadership.

Background:
The Seattle Foundation was established in 1946 by Seattle Art Museum founder Dr. Richard Fuller with an initial endowment of $289,000. Today, it is the oldest and largest community foundation in the state of Washington, with assets totaling more than $600 million. The foundation supports a broad range of issues, including arts and culture, education, health and wellness, community improvement and development, and the environment.

Outstanding Web Feature:
Re-launched in 2010, the Seattle Foundation Web site includes a searchable, first-of-its-kind database of nonprofits based in Washington and around the world. Visitors can browse an extensive list of past grantees. The site also features a calendar of events, scholarship information for students, grant application advice for nonprofits, a video for donors on starting a donor-advised fund, and a reports archive.
