#SpeakOutHIV

#SpeakOutHIV

Mission:
To break the silence — and end the stigma — of HIV by inviting young men to share their stories about HIV.

Background:
An initiative of Greater Than Aids, #SpeakOutHIV is a social media campaign designed to promote more open discussion about HIV at a time when new HIV infections are rising disproportionately among young gay men. Organized with the help of AIDS United, the Black AIDS Institute, the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, and the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and funded by the Ford and Elton John AIDS foundations, the campaign will run from National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (September 27) through National Coming Out Day (October 11). #SpeakOutHIV is part of Greater Than AIDS' broader Speak Out campaign to engage the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in ending the silence and stigma surrounding HIV.

Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the site can watch videos in which twenty-five gay men age 25 and younger, some HIV-positive and some HIV-negative, share their personal stories about HIV and their passion for effecting change. Visitors also are encouraged to post their own videos to YouTube, Facebook, and/or Twitter; to challenge their peers to add their voices to the conversation by recording messages of their own; and to learn more about the Speak Out campaign, HIV prevention and testing, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and treatment options.
