statehealthfacts.org
Mission:
To provide free, up-to-date, and easy-to-use health data for each of the fifty states and for the nation.
Background:
Statehealthfacts.org is a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation that supplies information on more than 450 health topics pertaining to individual states and to the nation as a whole. It also links to the main Kaiser Web site, which accesses the foundation's policy research and surveys, and to kaisernetwork.org, a multimedia resource for in-depth coverage of health policy news, debates, and discussions. The data presented in statehealthfacts.org is a selection of key health and health policy issues collected from public and private sources, including original foundation reports, data from public Web sites, and information purchased from private organizations. The Web site is updated as new information becomes available.
Outstanding Web Features:
Statehealthfacts.org allows users to peruse individual state profiles, or make a fifty-state comparison, by category, such as demographics and the economy, health coverage and the uninsured, health costs and budgets, minority health, and HIV/AIDS. Each area is further broken down by subcategory. Most of the data on the site is public information and may be reproduced for free with the appropriate citation.
