UNITY: Journalists of Color Inc.
Mission: To advocate fair and accurate news coverage about people of color, and aggressively challenge the industry to staff its organizations at all levels to reflect the nation's diversity.
Background:
UNITY: Journalists of Color was founded in January 1998 as a strategic alliance of four organizations: the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association, and the Native American Journalists Association. Through UNITY, journalists of color get to learn from their differences and pool their resources in pursuit of common goals, which the organization has identified as improving the industry's coverage of communities of color, increasing opportunities for young and prospective journalists, promoting diversity and helping others to understand its value, and fostering better race relations.
Outstanding Web Features:
The UNITY Web site features information on currently available scholarships, fellowships, professional opportunities, and training. It also supplies links for publications by UNITY and its partners, including stylebooks and media resource lists, articles and surveys on diversity in journalism, and an events calendar that extends into 2008.
