USA Projects

USA Projects

Mission:
To invite people to think about the values in the project's Declaration of Interdependence, come up with new ideas for how to live together in cities, and then spread the word to help turn those ideas into action.

Background:
The US Initiative was developed by CEOs for Cities, which works with a network of partners to help develop cities that excel in the areas of talent, connectivity, innovation, and distinctiveness. Sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, the initiative was born out of two veloCITY sessions held last year in Washington, D.C., and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Outstanding Web Features:
The US Initiative features a profile page for each of the project's five ambitions that together have the potentital to define a "new American dream," including livability, community, connectivity, opportunity, and optimism. Each profile includes more information about the ambition, a video, a list of upcoming events — CEOs for Cities plans to host events in more than a dozen major cities to develop a set of new ambitions for life in cities and bold ideas for how they will be achieved — and related blog posts. In November, experts from the fields of citizen engagement, public policy activism, volunteerism, technology, government, and citizen-led civic production convened to share knowledge and develop an understanding of what a "robust public life" means today. Visitors to the community challenge online forum can read and respond to ideas that were submitted during that meeting.
