Launched by the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) in 2008 to help aggregate social media resources and develop a training curriculum for nonprofit organizations, the We Are Media wiki is an open-content platform that allows anyone to contribute their social media-related thoughts, strategies, and tools. The result is a comprehensive how-to guide that covers every aspect of implementing a social media strategy.

Hosted on Wikispaces, the We Are Media site features a toolbox designed to help nonprofit organizations learn more about social media tools and techniques such as monitoring, RSS readers, social bookmarking, commenting, blogging, podcasting, photo and video sharing, spreading awareness and generating buzz, crowd sourcing, "micro media" networking, and fundraising. In addition, the wiki features a complete training curriculum, including strategic and tactical learning modules compiled by nonprofit technology and social media experts. The community member directory/"expertise map" includes a list of the experts who have contributed content to the wiki and identifies theiur skills, expertise, and connections to other members of the project's advisory group. Information on the site is available for non-commercial distribution under a Creative Commons license.
