WorldPublicOpinion.org
Mission: To provide a source of in-depth information and analysis on public opinion from around the world on international issues.
Background:
WorldPublicOpinion.org (WPO) was launched in January 2006 by the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA). Supported by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Ford, JEHT, Stanley, Calvert, and Circle foundations, the Web site provides objective analyses of public opinion on international policy issues — currently for free, though that may change. Its goal is to increase the understanding of public opinion and to elucidate global patterns of viewpoints throughout the world.
Outstanding Web Features:
Every page of the site contains a navigation bar that allows visitors to explore world opinion by region (e.g., Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, United States/Canada), with a digest of U.S. opinion and related readings for each region; or by topic (development/aid, environment, globalization/trade, international security), also with related readings. In addition to offering global views on issues pertaining to specific regions or countries, the site links to PIPA's partner organizations; another PIPA-sponsored Web site, Americans & the World; and other poll sources.
