Public Viewpoint: COVID-19 Work and Education Survey
Nearly half (46 percent) of Americans have either lost their jobs or seen their hours or income reduced, a survey by the Strada Education Network finds. Conducted on March 25 and 26, the nationally representative survey of a thousand American adults, Public Viewpoint: COVID-19 Work and Education Survey (HTML or PDF, 3 pages), found that more than half of respondents said they expected the coronavirus outbreak to have a "very" (23 percent) or "somewhat" (32 percent) negative effect on their finances and/or were "extremely" (15 percent), "very" (14 percent), or "somewhat" (28 percent) worried that they might lose their jobs as a result of the public health crisis. The survey also found that a third of respondents believed that if they were to lose their jobs, they would need additional education or training to find a new job with comparable wages or income, and that if they had $5,000 to invest in their future education or training, 26 percent would choose an online college or university, followed by an apprenticeship or internship with a local employer (18 percent) and an online community college (17 percent). The survey's dashboard will be updated on a weekly basis.
