The Journey: How to Scale for Impact with Social Justice Innovations

A publication from the Center for Policing Equity (CPE) provides a roadmap for scaling CPE innovations—products, services, and programs—aimed at disrupting bias and reducing harm in policing practices as well as solving social justice challenges by redesigning public safety systems. The report, The Journey: How to Scale for Impact with Social Justice Innovations (14 pages, PDF), seeks to provide an end-to-end framework of how and when to scale and emphasizes the need to acknowledge how innovations in public safety take place in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environments. The roadmap includes three
milestones—design for impact, disseminate impact, and demonstrate impact—which, in turn, comprise four objectives each: create a viable innovation, create a workflow infrastructure, develop a strategy, and mobilize a “dream team”; develop evaluation infrastructure, launch and evaluate, implement data-driven adaptations/innovations, and demonstrate improvement; achieve “readiness” to scale, identify scale objectives, refine relevant objectives, and achieve scale.
