Amgen Foundation commits $30 million to Harvard’s LabXchange

The Amgen Foundation has announced a three-year, $30 million commitment to Harvard University’s LabXchange, a free online platform designed to address barriers to quality science education.

LabXchange provides users with access to science education resources, helping educators and students with personalized lab experiments, interactive lessons, and videos designed to complement in-person education and build science literacy and the next generation of scientists.

The funding will bolster LabXchange’s collaborations with STEM organizations worldwide, particularly in underserved communities. In addition, LabXchange will develop data science, biotechnology, and environmental content; increase offerings that address racial inequity in healthcare, education, and STEM; expand content for middle schoolers; translate content into 30 languages; and launch a teachers’ network. Since 2018 the foundation has provided $13 million to launch and develop the platform.

“We believe that everyone needs science, and that science needs everyone. To date we’ve reached 20 million users in 230 countries and territories around the world,” said LabXchange managing director Gaurav Vazirani. “To fully realize our vision, we aim to grow our global science classroom from 20 million people to 50 million by 2025.”
