Andrew and Nicola Forrest split, foresee ‘no impact’ on foundation
Australia’s richest couple, Andrew and Nicola Forrest, founders of the Minderoo Foundation, have announced their separation.
The couple, who jointly control Fortescue Metals Group and the private investment group Tattarang, confirmed their separation in a statement to the Australian Financial Review, but stressed that they were aligned on the future and direction of Fortescue and the Minderoo Foundation. The split could have positive impacts on the foundation’s giving impact, The Australian reports, with more decision-making power given to the CEO. In the weeks leading up to the separation announcement, the foundation has made major changes, notably appointing John Hartman as CEO in May after several months acting as CEO. The couple are still co-chairs of the foundation and will continue to have relevant say in the organization’s decisions.
“We will continue our shared mission to create and gift our wealth to tackle community and global challenges, as recently shown by last month’s donation of one-fifth of our Fortescue shareholding to Minderoo Foundation,” said Andrew and Nicola Forrest in Wednesday’s joint statement.
