Andy Warhol Foundation awards $3.9 million in spring 2022 grants

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts in New York City has announced 50 grants totaling $3.9 million in support of visual arts programs, exhibitions, and curatorial research projects that contribute to artistic flourishing across the country.

The spring 2022 awards, which include support for 19 first-time grantees, feature organizations notable for their creative and collaborative approach to working with artists. As with previous grant cycles during the pandemic, the foundation is allowing up to 50 percent of each grant to be used for administrative expenses, with the aim of contributing to long-term recovery and financial stability of arts institutions. In addition, the foundation awarded eight grants totaling $356,000 for curatorial research toward future exhibitions.

“The spring 2022 grantees are notable for their resilience, ingenuity, and dedication to supporting artists at every stage of their careers,” said Warhol Foundation program director Rachel Bers. “As the culture shifts, they work side by side with artists to find ways to critically and creatively engage the forces that shape our world.”

“Artist-centered organizations are tasked with finding new, forward-thinking ways to present artists’ perspectives to regional, national and international audiences,” said Warhol Foundation president Joel Wachs. “The foundation’s support for these organizations helps to open pathways for artists to make meaningful contributions to conversations about the pressing issues of our time.”
