Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation Awards $2 Million to Hammer Museum
The Hammer Museum at the University of California, Los Angeles has announced a $2 million gift from the Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation in support of its initiatives for children and families.
The gift will enable the museum to increase its offerings — including opportunities to engage with established and emerging artists in hands-on experiences, art making, and literary workshops — and expand its outreach to more communities. Free current and future offerings include the Classroom-in-Residence, an integrated arts education model in which two sixth-grade classes spend a week learning math, science, and language arts by engaging with the museum's exhibitions and programs. The Hammer also offers a High School Outreach program in partnership with schools in underserved neighborhoods and free Family Days that include workshops led by artists and provides transportation for both.
In addition to housing the Armand Hammer Collection, the Hammer Daumier and Contemporaries Collection, the Hammer Contemporary Collection, and the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts, and the museum oversees the management of the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden on the UCLA campus. The Pritzkers have been supporters of the museum for nearly a decade, and Tony Pritzker has served on the board since 2011.
"This gift is a tremendously thoughtful investment in building and nurturing the next generation of arts audiences, advocates, and creative minds, which are essential to our community," said the museum's director, Ann Philbin. "We are so grateful for the many generosities of the Pritzkers and how their visionary philanthropy will impact children and their families throughout Southern California."
