Baltimore Museum of Art receives $2.5 million for education center
The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) has announced a $2.5 million gift from Baltimore philanthropists Patricia and Mark Joseph in support of the renovation and reconceptualization of the Joseph Education Center.
The center will reopen in fall 2023 with a larger interactive gallery featuring new site-specific installations that encourage direct visitor engagement. In addition, the gift will support the development and refurbishment of classrooms to expand available space for artmaking. The Josephs established the center in 2015 with a $3 million gift.
“Enhancing the ways in which our visitors experience, learn about, and relate to art is of high priority,” said Asma Naeem, BMA interim co-director and the Eddie C. and C. Sylvia Brown Chief Curator. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to expand the functionality and possibilities of the Joseph Education Center with artist interventions, new technologies, and environments dedicated to making for students of all ages.”
“Patricia and I are pleased to support the new experiences and technologies, which will be unveiled next fall,” said Mark Joseph. “We look forward to school students and visitors of all ages experiencing the new center.”
