Baltimore Summer Youth Initiative Receives $1.5 Million
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has announced grants to thirty-one Baltimore nonprofits as part of a joint $1.5 million Summer Youth Initiative that brings together three of Baltimore's largest charitable funders.
In partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Family League of Baltimore, the Weinberg Foundation created the initiative to create high-quality summer programs that blend academic learning with enrichment activities to stem summer learning loss, increase positive social behavior, and enhance academic achievement. All of the grant recipients serve youth from low-income families in the City of Baltimore.
Although each grantmaker made its own internal funding decisions, they shared the same application process and review strategy to ensure support for programs that provide access to educational activities focused on literacy, science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as those that work to integrate children with disabilities.
