Bezos Day One Fund awards $117.55 million for homeless families

The Bezos Day One Fund, a $2 billion philanthropic fund launched in 2018, has announced grants totaling $117.55 million in support of nonprofits working to help families experiencing homelessness.

Awarded through the sixth annual Day 1 Families Fund leadership awards, grants will assist 38 organizations and civic groups in 23 states in their compassionate, needle-moving work to help families move from unsheltered homelessness and shelters to permanent housing. Recipients include American Indian Community Development Corporation in Minneapolis ($5 million); BronxWorks in New York City ($5 million); Council for the Homeless in Vancouver, Washington ($5 million); Interfaith Community Services in Escondido, California ($5 million); Primavera Foundation in Tucson, Arizona ($5 million); Temporary Emergency Services in Tuscaloosa, Alabama ($1 million); United Communities Against Poverty, Inc. in Capitol Heights, Maryland ($1.25 million); Wisconsin Balance of State CoC in Eau Claire, Wisconsin ($1.25 million); and YWCA Greater Cincinnati in Ohio ($1.25 million).

To date, the Day 1 Families Fund has issued 208 awards totaling $639.1 million to organizations in 48 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

“We plan to use this generous investment to develop a coalition-wide, innovative, and comprehensive project designed to help families access the help they need to regain stability,” said Wisconsin Balance of State CoC director Carrie Poser. “The project will provide case management and supportive services to those who would become homeless without assistance as well as those in shelter and experiencing unsheltered homelessness. We’re grateful for the Day 1 Families Fund’s support as we help more families experiencing homelessness regain safe, stable housing and achieve well-being.”
