Binghamton University—part of the State University of New York system—has announced a $5.6 million gift from the Hong Kong-based S.H. Ho Foundation in support of faculty research.

The largest gift the university has received from an organization will provide $200,000 annually in seed grants in perpetuity to advance research at the intersection of health sciences and technology. The gift also is expected to trigger an endowment match from the state government that would infuse the campus with an additional $2.5 million. Alumna Martha Ho earned her master’s degree in 1978 from Binghamton University.

“Donors advance faculty success and help elevate the university’s reputation for innovative and meaningful research,” said Binghamton University provost Donald Hall. “This crucial support fosters an environment in which Binghamton’s top-ranked researchers can launch or further their projects and could result in the next great breakthroughs in technology or health sciences.”
