Blandin Foundation awards $4.8 million in grants

The Blandin Foundation in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has awarded $4.8 million in grants to local organizations working to inspire, support, and guide young people from cradle to career.

Awards include $2 million to bolster Invest Early’s efforts to serve at-risk children up to age 5 and their families; $240,000 to Itasca County 4H; more than $1.15 million for the upcoming schoolyear was awarded to students from 11 area schools, including more than 121 first-time recipients; and a $185,000 grant to the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency in support of Itasca area adults pursuing a postsecondary degree or credentialing program to secure living-wage employment.

“Investing in our young people today makes for strong rural communities tomorrow,” said Blandin Foundation grants director Sonja Merrild. “We’re inspired by the mentors, cheerleaders, and supporters who surround our young people with love and wisdom as they explore and build their personal and professional lives in our communities.”
