The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation in Atlanta—created by the Giving Pledge signatory, co-founder of Home Depot, and owner of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons—has announced grants totaling $6.5 million to refurbish football fields at four historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in Georgia and Alabama.

The grants were awarded through the HBCU Invitational Field Refurbishment Program, funded by the Blank Foundation in collaboration with the NFL Foundation and managed by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. The grants will fund the conversion from natural grass to turf at Albany State University’s coliseum and the Miles College (Fairfield, Alabama) practice facility, as well as the replacement of turf fields at Clark Atlanta University’s Panther Stadium and Savannah State University’s Ted Wright Stadium. In the last 25 years, the program has refurbished hundreds of community football fields across the United States.

“The positive impact of athletics is a driving force throughout our portfolio of businesses,” said AMB Sports and Entertainment CEO and Blank Foundation associate board member Rich McKay. “Arthur Blank and his family foundation recognize and prioritize community impact through sport, and supporting these historical institutions is a natural extension of our values.”
