Blank Family Foundation reaches $1 billion in giving
The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation in Atlanta has announced that since its inception in 1995, it has committed $1 billion in giving.
Founded by Arthur M. Blank, co-founder of the Home Depot and Giving Pledge signatory, the family foundation has made investments across the country, predominantly in Georgia and Montana, where commitments have totaled $670 million and $28 million, respectively. Early investments include early childhood education, parks and greenspaces, the arts, health and fitness, college and career preparation, and the long-term revitalization of Atlanta’s Westside. New priority areas include youth development, democracy, environment, and mental health and well-being.
In its first year of operation, the foundation awarded $5 million in grants. As it tops $1 billion, it anticipates an acceleration in its philanthropic giving over the next decade.
Recent grants include $3 million to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta in support of its Rising Together campaign; $1 million to CARE USA for its Humanitarian Surge Fund, which enables the rapid deployment of staff, equipment, and resources for emergencies; $1 million from the Molly Blank Fund in support of PJ Library, which provides free books to Jewish children; and $9.25 million to the Energy Foundation to inform policy makers about the benefits of clean energy markets and commitments across regions.
“We are proud to have reached this significant milestone, but this moment is truly a testament to the dedicated service of the thousands of nonprofits we’ve supported over the past two and a half decades,” said Blank. “I’m thankful for every current and former associate and board member of the foundation who helped us reach this point, and I know that together with our grantee partners we can continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I look forward to what’s to come and the continued impact we will all make together.”
