Blue Shield of California Foundation Awards $11.2 Million

The San Francisco-based Blue Shield of California Foundation has announced second-quarter grants totaling $11.2 million to improve the quality of health care and domestic violence services for the most vulnerable Californians.

Aimed at strengthening the capacity of urban and rural safety-net providers to offer seamless, well-coordinated care, the funding will continue BSCF's support of health information exchanges and other technology projects, as well as new models of care delivery that address access to specialty care and behavioral health services. Grant recipients include the California Pan-Ethnic Health Network, Community Health Partnership, Futures Without Violence, the JSI Research & Training Institute, the Prevention Institute, the Public Health Institute, and Social Finance.

"Our state's underserved, low-income patients and survivors of domestic violence face significant barriers to care that are magnified by a poorly integrated healthcare system," said BSCF president and CEO Peter Long. "We believe that strengthening the integration and coordination of services across the safety net will remain critical as California navigates the current healthcare environment."
