Borealis Philanthropy awards $2.5 million to trans-led groups
Borealis Philanthropy, a Minneapolis-based social justice funding intermediary, has announced $2.5 million in general support and development grants to 47 trans-led organizations across the United States.
Awarded through the Fund for Trans Generations—which supports transgender, gender non-conforming, and nonbinary people’s efforts to thrive and live with self-determination—the grants represent the largest distribution in the fund’s history and include 18 multiyear grants. Grantees, who have not yet been disclosed, share priorities including the creation of mutual aid and care networks; the procurement of land and community space; increased accessibility for virtual gatherings; the expansion of legal and advocacy work; and support for incarcerated, migrant, houseless, and disabled trans folks.
The fund prioritizes moving resources to historically under-resourced areas, with more than 40 percent of current and prospective grantees based in the American Southeast and Gulf Coast regions. In addition to three grantees working at the national level, partners are located in 26 states and Puerto Rico.
