CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (CCMF) in Winnipeg has announced a C$27 million ($20 million) gift from the Paul Albrechtsen Foundation.

The largest donation ever to a healthcare organization in Manitoba will support four key areas: the updating of research laboratories (C$17 million, $12.5); single cell technology (C$4 million, $2.9 million), including a suite of five machines that each allow for different analyses of how cells are reacting and interacting with each other in a tumor; increased capacity for genomic sequencing (C$2.5 million, $1.8 million); and a new dedicated space for the Centre for HopeWestern Manitoba Cancer Centre (C$3.5 million, $2.6 million). In recognition of the gift, the CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute will be renamed the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute CancerCare Manitoba, and the Centre for Hope will be renamed the Paul Albrechtsen Centre for Hope.

“The Paul Albrechtsen Foundation is proud to support the important work being done here at CancerCare Manitoba,” said Paul Albrechtsen Foundation president Scott Albrechtsen. “My dad loved this province and believed in supporting all aspects of health care from research in the labs to holistic support programs to ensure Manitobans can receive the best possible care close to home.”
