Carleton College Receives $5 Million From Starr Foundation

Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, has received a five-year, $5 million grant from the New York City-based Starr Foundation in support of the school's Asia in Comparative Perspective program.

The grant, the third the foundation has awarded to the program, will fund scholarships, academic programs, and leadership initiatives. This year thirty-one scholars from more than a dozen countries — including Bangladesh, China, India, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Myanmar/Burma, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Nepal, Taiwan, Tibet, and Vietnam — are studying at Carleton. Now in its sixth-year, the program encourages comparative study of cultures and prepares Asian and American students to live and work in a global society.

"The Starr Foundation's grant," said Carleton board chairman Michael Armacost, "provides marvelous and timely assistance to support top-notch Asian students and further internationalize the educational experience offered by Carleton College."
