Carnegie Corporation of New York Awards $20 Million in Grants

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has announced second-quarter grants totaling more than $20 million.

Grants made through the foundation's International Program include $1.4 million over two years to the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., in support of its foreign policy program, and $750,000 to the International Crisis Group in New York City to promote effective state building and peace building in Africa through locally driven research, analysis, policy development, and advocacy.

Through its National Program, the foundation awarded $3 million over three years to Rekindling the Dream Foundation, a supporting organization of the public school system in Providence, Rhode Island, in support of its efforts to develop and bolster secondary schools under the Opportunity by Design initiative, and $400,000 over two years to the International Association Council for K-12 Online Learning in Vienna, Virginia, for continued support of policy work related to mastery-based learning progressions, next generation learning, and the Common Core State Standards.

In addition, the foundation awarded grants through its Special Opportunities Fund to six organizations, including an award of $1 million over two years to the Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association (WETA) in Arlington, Virginia, in support of the PBS Newshour, and $225,000 to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh to help expand the Simon Datalab user community and develop a best practices learning science module.
