City College of New York Receives $5.3 Million for Scholarships
The City College of New York has announced a $5.3 million gift to its Division of Science from an alumnus who wishes to remain anonymous.
The gift will support fellowships in the Program for Graduate Studies as well as undergraduate scholarships in science and mathematics, with the goal of providing students from diverse backgrounds with access to world-class researchers and inspiring the scientific leaders of tomorrow. PhD student fellows will each receive a $32,000 annual stipend and full tuition relief for five years, while outstanding undergraduate students who are majoring in science or mathematics and have maintained a 3.5 GPA over their first two years will be eligible to receive an annual scholarship of $7,000.
"This wonderful gift integrates our coupled mission of research and education in the sciences," said dean of science Tony Liss, "helping us attract the best PhD students to do their PhD research with our world-class faculty, and to provide the most stimulating possible research opportunities for our undergraduates as a crucial part of their education."
