Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute Receives $10 Million Pledge
The Taussig Cancer Institute at the Cleveland Clinic has announced a $10 million pledge from Paula Jo and Bob Boykin and Kristina and Jack Boykin.
Made in honor of the brothers' mother, Audrey M. Boykin, who died of cancer in 1990, the gift will support clinical care, innovation, and research, education, and capital priorities that improve the patient experience at the institute. In recognition of the gift, the main lobby at the Taussig Cancer Center will be named in honor of the Boykin family.
"The Boykin family gift will support a number of services that help patients throughout their cancer journey," said institute chair Brian J. Bolwell. "In addition to outstanding clinical care, we must support our patients as they navigate through what can be a daunting diagnosis. Patients experience various levels of hardship during their treatment, and the Boykins are providing us with the resources to do something about that. For this, we are truly grateful."
"Ours is a Cleveland story," said Bob Boykin, whose father, William, built his family's real estate business in the city and later founded a hotel company. Bob and Jack expanded Boykin Lodging as a publicly traded company before selling it in 2006. "Three generations did business there. The town was good to us, and Cleveland Clinic was always a part of it. It's a piece of our fabric."
