Clinton Giustra Partnership Launches Supply-Chain Initiative in Haiti
The Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership, an initiative of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, has announced the launch of a supply-chain enterprise in Haiti designed to improve the livelihoods of more than twelve thousand smallholder peanut farmers.
Part of the Clinton Foundation's commitment to long-term sustainable economic development in Haiti, the Acceso Peanut Enterprise Corporation will work to improve the yields and income of peanut farmers in the impoverished country. To that end, Acceso will provide a network of forty service depots across Haiti and, with funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Abbott Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the U.S. Agency for International Development and technical assistance from TechnoServe, will also provide training to thousands of Haitian farmers.
"The Acceso Peanut Enterprise Corporation is modeled after the success of similar supply chain enterprises we have launched in Latin America and India and illustrates a replicable solution that has the potential to alleviate global poverty," said Frank Giustra, president and CEO of a Canadian financial services firm and co-founder of CGEP. "We’re very excited at the potential it has in Haiti not only to increase the yield and productivity, but to scale up Haiti’s peanut supply chain to meet the growing regional demand for peanuts without relying on imports."
