Colby-Sawyer College awarded $10.2 million for endowment, scholarships
Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, has announced a $10.2 million gift from alumna Sonja Carlson Davidow ('56) and her husband, William, in support of the college's endowment, new faculty chairs, and student scholarships.
More than half the gift, the largest in the school's 183-year-history, will be directed to the college's endowment, while $4 million will be used to create two endowed faculty chairs, $500,000 will fund improvements to and maintenance of the Davidow Center for Art + Design, and $500,000 will create an endowed scholarship fund.
The Davidows are longtime supporters of the college, having previously supported the construction of the Davidow Center for Art + Design, the Sonja C. Davidow '56 Endowed Chair of Fine Arts, the Student Aid Emergency Fund, and the Colby-Sawyer Fund.
"Financial aid made it possible for Sonja to attend Colby-Sawyer," said William Davidow, who met his wife in the mid-1950s while attending nearby Dartmouth College. "It was a gift that changed her life, so we would love others to have access to that same life-changing opportunity."
