Colgate University receives $20 million for financial aid

Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, has announced a $20 million gift from alumnus John K. Hoyns (’76) in support of student financial aid.

The gift, one of the largest ever received among Colgate’s peer institutions in support of financial aid, boosts the university’s $1 billion Campaign for the Third Century halfway to its goal. Launched publicly in April 2022, the campaign will fund initial priorities within the university’s Third-Century Plan, including a long-term financial aid initiative to increase student access and affordability.

“To put our achievement in perspective, if Colgate were to end its campaign today, this would be among the top-five largest of any liberal arts college,” said Colgate president Brian W. Casey. “Far from ending today, however, we are inspired to continue. Our ambition is reaffirmed.”
