Comcast NBCUniversal awards $2 million to AAPI nonprofits

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced grants totaling $2 million in support of social justice organizations working to address violence against the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.

Awarded as part of a three-year, $100 million commitment announced by the company last June in support of efforts to advance social justice and racial equity, the grants will help fund outreach and advocacy efforts by AAPI-led nonprofits aimed at addressing the increase in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Recipients include Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC, which is working to combat misinformation about the AAPI community and address hate, intolerance, and systemic racism; the Asian Pacific Fund's Solidarity Fund, which will regrant the resources to nonprofits working to support the physical and mental health of survivors, ensure the safety of seniors, and advocate for racial justice; the Asian American Federation, in support of its Hope Against Hate initiative, which is aimed at stopping bias attacks and hate crimes against vulnerable AAPI New Yorkers; and the Asian/Pacific Islander Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship Foundation's  AAPISTRONG program, a campaign to specifically address the anti-AAPI racism and violence that is damaging the AAPI small business community.

The grants are in addition to the nearly $10 million Comcast NBCUniversal has already committed to AAPI organizations through the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation and social impact programs.

"The recent increase in anti-Asian violence — and the seemingly endless acts of social injustice that we continue to see against so many of our communities — have been difficult to witness," said Craig Robinson, NBCUniversal's executive vice president and chief diversity officer. "It's not only our responsibility to report on these stories, but also to celebrate the AAPI leaders and changemakers who are doing great work every day."
