The Jacksonville-based Community Foundation for Northeast Florida has announced a $61 million gift from philanthropist Delores Barr Weaver in support of the Delores Barr Weaver Legacy Fund.

The gift, which was awarded in July of 2023 but only recently made public, is the largest in the foundation’s history. As part of Weaver’s Legacy 2024 grantmaking plan, which was developed in partnership with staff at the foundation, grants will be awarded throughout the year—with a focus on selected nonprofits she has supported for many years—for specific projects, capital improvements, matching challenges, and multi-year funding for causes including ensuring that all people can thrive, no matter their age, identity, or ability status; advancing the arts; revitalizing neighborhoods and expanding affordable housing; and addressing environmental issues, such as land conservation.

Weaver, who co-owned the Jacksonville Jaguars with her husband, established the fund in 2012 with a $50 million gift.

“The community foundation’s expert staff and charitable giving solutions have enabled me to have greater impact in the region I love than I ever could alone,” said Weaver. “I want to congratulate and thank the Legacy 2024 agencies and the staff of the community foundation for their partnership over many years.”
