Connecticut

The Connecticut Community Foundation in Waterbury has announced grants totaling $590,000 to dozens of organizations working to assist area youth struggling with homelessness and other challenges. Recipients include the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, the Community Culinary School of Northwest Connecticut, the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Waterbury Public Schools.

Florida

The Community Foundation of Sarasota and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice are working to find housing for the chronically homeless, Sarasota Magazine reports. With a gift of $1.5 million from a group of donors, the two foundations have been working to help single homeless adults achieve independence and stability. The gift will support the efforts of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to roll out a "rapid rehousing" program for a hundred and thirty homeless individuals in the area in 2018.

Illinois

The Evanston Community Foundation has announced Jessi Donaldson as its new director of philanthropy and communications. Donaldson most recently served as the director of engagement and participation at Chicago College of Business in the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Indiana

The Central Indiana Community Foundation in Indianapolis has announced that a gift made in 2015 in memory of Dr. Corbin Roudebush has led to the development of an app designed to help patients with diabetes. Judy Roudebush had been looking for a way to honor her husband, who died in 2008, and give back to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, where Corbin practiced endocrinology for thirty years. Her daughter, a nurse at Methodist, helped identify a gap in diabetic education for patients leaving the hospital, where nurses often have as little as ten minutes to explain diabetes management to patients. The app, Indiana University Health My Diabetes Tracker, took two years to develop and will be released in the first half of the year.

Kansas

The El Dorado Prairie Port Fund, which is administered by El Dorado Community Foundation, has awarded a grant of $2,000 to El Dorado Main Street, the Butler County Times-Gazette reports. The fund, which was established after the Prairie Port Festival closed in 2010, provides funding to organizations looking to stage events in the El Dorado community. Main Street will use the grant to purchase a sound system.

Massachusetts

The Cape Cod Foundation in South Yarmouth has announced that the Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals has awarded a total of $40,000 in grants to eleven nonprofit organizations working to help and protect domesticated animals and wildlife. Recipients include the Center for Coastal Studies, Nantucket Safe Harbor for Animals, the Pegasus Foundation, and People for Cats.

Missouri

The St. Louis Foundation has announced that during 2017 it awarded 5,500 grants totaling $79.1 million, both records for the 102-year-old foundation. The foundation also received 2,600 grants (also a record) valued at $176 million, highlighted by a gift of approximately $103 million in December from Scottrade founder Rodger Riney and his wife, Paula, after Riney sold his company to TD Ameritrade.

New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has announced the creation of a scholarship fund for immigrants looking to further their education. Established by photographer and former college professor Becky Field, who has been documenting the lives of New Hampshire's immigrant and refugee families since 2012, the Different Roots, Common Dreams Scholarship Fund will be open to students of any age who came to New Hampshire as a refugee or immigrant and who want to pursue a four-year undergraduate degree. The application period for the initial round of scholarships will open in February.

Ohio

The Dayton Foundation has announced the winners of its #Hometown360 Challenge. Selected from seventy-eight photos highlighting the pride and positive changes that are happening across the greater Dayton area, the winning photo, which features the downtown Dayton Flyover, was submitted by Sarah Caplan, while the Dayton Gay Men's Chorus was awarded a $1,000 #Hometown360 Challenge grant.

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $89,700 to seven local organizations working to support community wellness in central Oklahoma. Made through the foundation's Wellness Initiative, which works with charitable organizations to develop innovative community-based programs that motivate people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make healthy choices, the grants ranged from $10,000 to $20,000. Recipients include Among Friends of Norman, ReMerge of Oklahoma County, Infant Crisis Services, and Healthy Schools Oklahoma.
