California

The Calaveras Community Foundation in Angels Camp has announced a gift of $10,000 from the Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians. Employees of the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort also are making individual gifts in support of the community.

Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced that during 2017 it awarded grants totaling more than $34.5 million to nonprofit organizations and educational institutions in the region. According to its latest estimates, the foundation received $16.7 million in new gifts, awarded 2,385 grants, and ended the year with $1.07 billion in assets.

Georgia

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced the additions of Millard Choate, Susan Grant, Jerry Wilkinson, and Studie Young to its board of directors. Choate is chair and CEO of Choate Construction Company. Grant is retired from CNN, where she was executive vice president of CNN News Services, and currently chairs Heifer International. Wilkinson is founder and chair of the Wilkinson Companies, a privately held real estate investment, management, and construction firm. And Young has worked in residential real estate for thirty years.

Nebraska

The Omaha Community Foundation has announced that thirteen professional advisors have completed the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy course, a yearlong program organized by the foundation. Through the program, professional financial advisors learn to help clients achieve their charitable giving objectives while also meeting their estate planning and wealth management goals. Since OCF launched the interdisciplinary program in 2012, eighty-two advisors have earned the CAP designation.

Nevada

The Community Foundation of Western Nevada in Reno has announced that Melissa A. Tschanz has been promoted and will serve as the first chief financial officer in the foundation's twenty-year history. Since joining the foundation in 2013, Tschanz has worked to transform its internal financial systems and establish modern financial and investment systems.

South Carolina

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry in Hilton Head has announced the launch of the #LowcountryVolunteers Challenge,which will run through April 11. To enter the challenge, nonprofit volunteers are asked to post a photo of themselves on the foundation's Facebook page holding a #LowcountryVolunteers sign that explains why they volunteer. At the end of the challenge, participating nonprofits that meet the challenge's criteria will be eligible for one of four $2,000 grants. Winners will be announced on April 18 during National Volunteer Week.

Tennessee

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced that soccer great Mia Hamm will deliver the keynote address at the Power of the Purse luncheon benefiting the foundation's Women's Fund. Hamm, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time U.S. Soccer Player of the Year, and member of soccer's Hall of Fame, established the Mia Hamm Foundation, which works to increase awareness of the need for bone marrow donations and to develop more opportunities for young women in sports, in 1999.
