Arizona
As part of phase two of its COVID-19 Response Strategy, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced three new capacity-building programs designed to provide additional support and training to local nonprofit professionals and help local nonprofits recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic. The programs include a partnership between CFSA and the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management and two program offerings through the foundation's Center for Healthy Nonprofits.
California
The Malibu Foundation is assessing the region's ability to bounce back after natural disasters, the Malibu Times reports. The foundation, which was established after the 2018 Woolsey Fire, recently sent a survey to residents of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Pacific Palisades, Topanga, Westlake Village, Malibu, and other Santa Monica Mountain communities to assess their vulnerability to the effects of climate change, including drought, extreme heat, fires, and landslides, and is working with Climate Resolve, the Resource Conservation District, the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation, the Los Angeles County’s Office of Sustainability, and other groups to develop action steps and a sustainability plan based on the responses.
Colorado
The Community First Foundation in Arvada has announced grants totaling $850,000 in support of Jefferson County nonprofits working to provide housing assistance to residents of the community. Recipients of grants from the Jeffco Hope Fund include the Left Behind Worker Fund, Salvation Army, Mountain Resource Center, and Foothills Regional Housing.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced $3,000 in grants through its Youth Philanthropy Council to seven youth-serving organizations. Grant recipients include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hutchinson, Family Community Theatre, NAACP Youth, and Salthawk Community Support.
Massachusetts
The SouthCoast Community Foundation in New Bedford has announced grants totaling $1.3 million from its SouthCoast Emergency Response Fund to twenty local nonprofits. Supported in part by funds from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, the grants will be used to alleviate costs related to the provision of food assistance, child care, housing, technology for remote work/school, transportation, and assistance with utility bills. Recipients of grants ranging from $23,500 to $95,000 include the Attleboro YMCA, Brockton Neighborhood Health Center, Citizens for Citizens in Fall River, and the Literacy Center.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced a new funding opportunity for local organizations that are working to address community trauma and promote wellness as Minneapolis approaches the one-year anniversary of George Floyd's death. Starting March 15, the foundation will begin accepting applications for micro-grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 from its Fund for Safe Communities. Through the fund, the foundation plans to award up to $250,000 to local nonprofits, schools, and religious organizations working to support youth, adults, and familiess. Proposals focused on areas of Minneapolis directly affected by last summer's social unrest will receive priority, with applications to be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Ohio
The Akron Community Foundation has announced that its Gay Community Endowment Fund has awarded thirteen grants totaling $54,000 in support of programs designed to enhance quality of life for the LGBTQ+ community in the greater Akron area. Grant recipients include the Kent State University Foundation, Margie's Hope, CANAPI, and Open Arms Adoptions.
The Dayton Foundation is inviting area nonprofit organizations to apply to host a Del Mar Encore Fellow this summer. Del Mar Encore Fellows are paid by the foundation to work part-time on projects for six to twelve months. As detailed in its Request for Proposals, the foundation is looking for initiatives that address a significant community issue and would benefit from the leadership of an experienced, older adult professional. The deadline to apply is March 31.
Pennsylvania
The Forbes Funds, a supporting organization of the Pittsburgh Foundation, has announced the appointment of Colleen Young as director of its Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership. Young joins the organization after a year-long strategic alignment process in which more than two hundred regional stakeholders shared their vision for the future of the region's largest nonprofit network. She most recently served as director of community programs at the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Child Development.
