California

The San Diego Foundation has announced $390,880 in grants to five programs designed to create opportunities and career pathways for students from underserved communities pursuing a degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field at a local community college or university. The recipients are Palomar Community College District, the San Diego Workforce Partnership, California State University-San Marcos, and the Zoological Society of San Diego.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has named Stuart Burden as vice president of corporate responsibility and Michael Chertok as vice president of donor experience and engagement.

Kansas

The Halstead Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Newton-based Central Kansas Community Foundation, has recognized outgoing board members Beth Ann Kingsley, Von Kaufman, Larry Williams, and Karen Koehn, all of whom are founding board members of the six-year-old foundation. The foundation also announced that Dan Evans and Jalayna Carmicheal have joined the board and that it intends to fill the remaining two spots in the near future.

Kentucky

The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that, starting with its 2018 grants, it will use the Fund for Louisville to make grants that respond to findings in the Greater Louisville Project's report A Focus on Poverty. For at least three years, the community foundation will apply a strategic lens to its capacity-building grants by investing in nonprofit organizations working to strengthen communities in the city’s eleven most distressed ZIP codes.

Massachusetts

The Cape Cod Foundation has announced that its Falmouth Fund has awarded grants totaling nearly $80,000 to twenty-six organizations. Recipients include Calmer Choice, the Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Support Center, the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, and the Housing Assistance Corporation.

New York

Race Forward: The Center for Racial Justice Innovation has announced the launch of its Racial Equity in the Arts Innovation Lab. Funded by the New York Community Trust and the New York City Cultural Agenda Fund, the year-long initiative will recruit, train, coach, and provide a stipend to sixty diverse arts organizations in the city. Applications for the program are being accepted through the end of April.

Ohio

TheCleveland Foundation has announced a $300,000 grant to the Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) Foundation to support the expansion of a year-round dance program hosed at Tri-C's Creative Arts Academy. The grant will help the Dance Academy serve an additional two hundred students between the ages of 4 and 17 at three neighborhood-based locations: the CMHA Heritage View Community Center, the Family Ministry Center, and the Boys & Girls Club at St. Luke's Manor.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has appointed Will Woodward as its first chief financial officer and promoted Philip Lanham to the position of vice president of donor relations.

Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced grants totaling $230,000 to eighteen organizations through its Small and Mighty Grants program, which provides support to organizations with budgets of less than $600,000 working to assist youth between the ages of 12 and 24 and single women with children. The recipients of the program’s inaugural grants include Open Hand Ministries, Rainbow Kitchen Community Services, Allegheny Youth Development, and Orange Arrow.

Vermont

The Vermont Community Foundation in Middlebury has announced the final grants of its Food and Farm Initiative. Grants totaling more than $660,000 were awarded to eleven organizations working to boost the number of Vermonters with access to healthy, locally grown food. Half the total was awarded in partnership with donors and fund holders at the foundation, including $75,000 from the High Meadows Fund. Recipients of the latest grants include the Center for Agricultural Economy, Green Mountain Farm to School, Vital Communities, and the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund. Since 2012, the initiative has awarded more than $2.2 million in grants to nonprofits in the state.
